How To Talk To Your Children About Racism
Seeing oneself represented in the culture around them is important, especially when you’re young, seeking validation and trying to find your place in the world. Which is why we are proud to have always offered you dolls in a variety of body, hair and eye colors.
A fundamental part of Dumyé’s Karmic Goodness® Pinky-Promise, is to show compassion for all our fellow humans. And it is that compassion that drives us to stand in solidarity with the American black community who, made obvious by recent events, have suffered for far too long. As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
No matter who you are, or where you come from, it’s important that we continue to advocate for ALL people. It isn’t enough to say ‘I am not racist’. As parents we must pledge to be actively ANTIRACIST. We need to talk to our children, big or small, about race and racism. Our children are watching us. We are their greatest teachers and it has become clear that the empathy and tolerance we instill in them today can mean the difference between someone’s grown child surviving tomorrow.
We are on a mission to bring love and light into the lives of both our children and children in need. Right now black kids in America need everyone to listen to their voices and support them in their pursuit for equality.
